Freedom From Lust Larger Catechism
1. Why does God’s eternal nature surpass the temporary and fleeting nature of lust?
God eternal, no start, no end,
No parts, no needs, we all on Him depend.
Past, now and forever, He simply is,
In Him, eternal bliss, my salvation begins.
But lust began in the serpent’s heart,
And bids me, from God to depart.
Promising me bliss with a deathly kiss,
Its pleasures flee, as I hear the serpent hiss.
2. How does God’s holiness expose the emptiness of lust?
God, beyond my grasp, yet finitely known,
The Creator, not of flesh and bone.
Yet through prophets, apostles, and Christ’s grace,
In creation and Scripture, He reveals His face.
His wisdom vast, His insight pure,
He knows better and more than me, I am sure.
His righteousness revealed, all good is He,
In perfect holiness, His essence be.
But lust, my life, it soils,
And my relationship with God, it spoils.
Emptiness is its nature, and all it does bring,
Twists my senses deaf, I can’t hear creation sing.
3. How does God’s sovereign power expose the weakness of lust?
God, the almighty Creator,
Designer of all that’s good.
Of sin alone, He is not the Maker,
His power is everywhere understood.
He acts with sovereign purpose, high and free,
Gives and takes by His decree.
His timeless word, true and bright,
Given in the Bible, His truth is light.
But lust needs my permission,
A cancer to grow without remission.
This parasite eats my heart into a crater,
Drinking my life away, as it mocks my Creator.
4. How does God’s complete knowledge reveal that lust leads only to destruction?
God knows all that can be known,
Past and future, He alone.
Learning’s not for Him, the Creator,
Master of all knowledge, none greater.
What does man know? A fleeting breath,
Here for a moment, and then death.
Without God’s voice to light my way,
Lust and death await me each day.
But God, my beacon, hope, and guide,
In His knowledge I safely abide.
He knows what’s best for mankind,
In Him, truth and love, I always find.
5. How does God’s all-presence reveal the limited nature of lust?
God does not need what He has made,
For creation only exists in His shade.
He forever reigns outside His design,
Yet fills each moment, all of time.
No man can hide from God’s infinite being,
His presence, His love, He is all-seeing.
He loves His church in Christ without end,
A bond that finite lust can never rend.
